Many of the regular readers of this site know that I have relocated to the Great State of Nevada to initiate phase two of Average Global Industries (the name changes from time to time until I lite on one I really like, this one is close) having already built a large, influential and down right profitable Arizona business.

As I was driving home this afternoon after putting in 11 hours I came upon one of the local talk stations. The debate this 15 minute segment (something I do not like about Nevada radio, you only get 15 minutes or so per topic then they are off to the next one which is only one of the many reasons I am considering returning to radio, especially in this talent shallow market) was about a local congressman of some local fame who is wanting to pass a bill in the state requiring the parents of those children caught tagging (spray painting or now markering metal) to pay the child's fines. I thought, "This made radio?".

So I listened more intently as I drove my 5400 lbs of imported oil guzzling Tahoe down the equally oil soaked streets of Sin City. There was more, oh so much more.

This dipstick wants not only to have the kids parents pay the fines, but with no payment options: all or nothing. I thought, "That's less fair, but at least they aren't making the parents do the kids community service if they can't pay the fine.

Whaaaaaaaaaaamo! That was the next thing out of the hosts mouth. It seems that is exactly what congressman no name wants to do. To hell with the Constitution preventing you from doing the time if you didn't do the crime not to mention the lack of adjudication of the crime period against those who will be forced to pay in none monetary ways. Where did this guy come from I thought to myself.

So the questions are simple:

1. Is this kind of parental punishment constitutional in your eyes?

2. Is this the state's way of making sure parents watch their kids?

3. Is this plain old fashion communistic beating down of anyone they (the STATE) feels should be punished for being poor?

4. Is this OK with you because parents should be responsible for their kids screw ups even if it means doing their time for them?

I have real problems with this. Why have a Juvenile Court System if we are going to punish the parent. and while I agree that parents should without a doubt be monetarily responsible for damaged created by their kids, I do not believe they should do juniors time whether in jail or in some lessor community repayment requiring time away from their jobs. Lock the little bastards up for a week.

But what would I know; I'm just an Average American.
