And Then There Were Two (on each side)

In the blue corner, we have the tag team dynamic duo of Ice Queen Clinton and Change Man Obama, determined to inflict "right-eous" damage with a folding chair.
In the red corner, we have the fearsome twosome of Soul Man "Bling Bling" Romney and Grumpy Gramps McCain, ready to wipe the mat with the opponent "left" standing.
There are only four permutations (do the math), and the question is simple. I'd like everybody to reply regardless of party affiliation: Which match up would you like to see going into the general election, and which pairing would be your worst nightmare?
Please do not answer Al Gore, Ron Paul, or Dennis write-in because it's not going to happen. Please do not answer Bloomberg/Hagel because that is not on the radar at this point.
Choices are:
McCain v. Obama
McCain v. Clinton
Romney v. Obama
Romney v. Clinton

| ”In the blue corner, we have the tag team dynamic duo of Ice Queen Clinton and Change Man Obama, determined to inflict "right-eous" damage with a folding chair.” Har Har, MoronInCharge! Worst Nightmare: Romney v. Clinton
Consider this:
Surprisingly McCain is coming on strong. Maybe he would be a good president with a solidly non-Republican Congress. It would restore some semblance of checks and balance, at least in the storefront of the façade.
The Dimocratic Party is a past master at pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. Maybe we should help them this time around. They sure disappointed those that gave them the edge in Congress in ’06. Talk about a mass migration to the other side of the playing field once they had the votes in their hot little Mitts. I am very much disinclined to support them this time around based on that and their non-support of those that want to focus on the issues facing America rather than the PC crap and personalities.
Whoever gets my vote and support will get it from a registered Independent. These cursed Republican and Democratic parties are little more than a store front circus to distract the unwashed masses. |

| First, I agree with AZ Moderate. The decision is not an easy one and while I'm tempted to give a Democrat the job, I can't support someone like Obama because of his inexperience. (I bet if Obama were running as a Republican, you guys would be talking about him like you did George W. Bush.) I like John McCain more than Romney, Hillary more than Obama---actually I like Bill more than Hillary. To answer Moron's question, the match ups I'd like to see are: McCain v. Obama, in which case I would have no trouble voting for McCain; Romney v. Clinton, I'd vote for Clinton; However, if it's Romney v. Obama, I will either not vote or consider an Independent candidate. If it's Clinton v. McCain, I'll have to watch their debates. Well then, I guess I better start packing my bags. Now, now Pinball. Like two of the distinguished liars on this site have said, 8 years of an incompetent do-nothing Democrat would be better than another 8 years of an incompetent do-something Republican. Speaking of moving out of the country, did Alec Baldwin ever leave the country after the 2004 election? |

| McCain will beat Clinton. Billary was trying to inflame the anti-McCain winger base by suggesting they were "close". Obama will beat McCain-- maybe-- by Independent and youth margins. Romney is the pick of the winger base and he could beat either one given unending promotion by the Clear Channel stations he now 'owns' and the swiftboat attack that will come... Having said all that-- is your query intended to discover who is best for the liberal community, the country or the SCOTUS nominations that will need to be made after 2009? |

| Moron, Can I vote for "none of the above"? The great machines of cash and media have put together one of the ugliest line-ups ever. We still don't have a candidate that is going to do the right thing for this Country. |

| This is a tough one because you don't know who their running mates will be. I've sat here for 10 minutes trying to figure out which would be my best choice and my worst choice and I can't choose without a running mate :) Great question though! P.

Any "straw poles" up to this point were essentially meaningless because the number of candidates in play made it impossible to draw any conclusions. Of course, they were also meaningless due to selection bias. At this point, we can get some useful information from the query, depending on what you want to accomplish. I wonder what would be the winning combination (best match up is the better term) that Democrats should hope for; conversely, what is the Republican's winning combination, and consequently, the Democrats' worst nightmare. I'm encourage that TI will await the debates to decide between Clinton and McCain. I would ask that he do the same for Obama. We have failed, of course, to take into account what effect the choice of VP will have. I'm pretty sure that a McCain/Lieberman ticket will disgust Democrats and elate Republicans (basically a two Republican ticket). And Democrats who would cross over and vote Republican now that their favorite candidates have dropped out might have second thoughts when the true differences between the Republican and Democratic platforms are highlighted in the final face-off (the issues have never been more dramatically polarized or starkly contrasted). And finally, we have the reality of one, two, maybe three SCOTUS appointments by the next Democratic or Republican President -- which side will restore balance to the Force? For those who are disheartened by Edwards dropping off, Thom Hartman suggests an outcome that would really highlight his anti-corporate strengths: Attorney General John Edwards. Would that get you to think differently about the Obama or Clinton Administration TI? It won't happen with the McCain or Romney. |
