| I just drove 16 miles to buy a multi/printer/scanner/copier/fax at Fry's electronics. The Fry's boy saw me waiting for his help as he suffered, trapped helping another. But, as soon as he was finished with them, he flew away to a place where no one could see him (or so he thought!). As I walked away, I lipped a "F--- you very much ", (because he was looking me right in the eyes) I vowed never to shop there again. It took more time and effort to not help me than to help me and they lost a decent sale! I could have gone to BEST BUY a stones throw from my house if I wanted to be ignored . . .MEANWHILE! | |
| I walk out to my purple/blue Suzuki forenza, and go to put my key in the keyhole . . . but it is gone (the lock)! It appears that some white trash (I-17 and Thunderbird) piece of doggie-doo has attempted to commandeer my crap car by prying the lock with a screw driver! This fledgling car thief probably had to abort, because there were two (not 1) Glendale police cruisers in the parking lot! My daughter asked me why I didn't tell the two police (who were making goo-goo eyes at each other, and apparently not watching for car thieves). I told her it was because there were 2 of them in the parking lot! I didn't want to talk to the "slackers", I mean officers. |

| Hey Prom, this is the drill for working in AZ. They beg for workers who can pass drug screens, and have ID. Then, you get "trained" and they pay so little its an insult, then worker quits, and goes to another job. Where he needs to be trained again (at company cost) and whole process is repeated. |

| anti-dude, Ya know the story of the Safeway strike in California. He (THE CEO) broke the union, over a PEANUTS PAY INCREASE! People lost their houses . . . people lost everything. Now the CEO has to travel around with bodygaurds! And I don't think Walmart is any better. Watch the dvd "Walmart the high cost of low prices" or something like thaT! Walmart is ripping off their workers (and us) more than the rest!

| sure didnt hear about that, of course it probably would have made me look for another job if i had. i believe it though. there used to be like 15 people on night crew, now theres 5-6. i cant imagine why, i mean new employees start at 6 something an hour. i plna on moving back up north some day, back to where there are actually decent jobs that will pay the bills and leave you with a little money to buy some food and maybe a tank of gas every 2 to 3 weeks.

| Trying to get anything done is a disaster. I was trying to get some household repairs done all in one day using various trades. They don't answer the phones, they don't return calls if you leave a message. When/if you do get a hold of them and make arrangements, you just wonder if they are going to show up. I have called FOUR! companies to come out and trim some trees. All four were no shows. There is something seriously wrong with this country when you are actually surprised by GOOD service. That should be the norm, not the exception. |

| LOL AC, That would be hilarious, you dressed in black, swinging a sword, hacking at trees. My uptight, uppity neighbors would be freaking out. |

| Great comment stream, guys and gals. Very entertaining. I just went to the kitchen and made myself and the dawgs a sandwich. Ya know Prom, at least some of the unions grew huge and complacent and screwed their own membership. The Teamsters for instance at one point would not allow a transfer of retirement plans when a trucker changed companies, which is a common feature of that occupation. That locked the driver into a company, with all of the leverage that gives that company, unless he/she was willing to take it in the shorts. And we know that the union bosses took care of themselves. But don’t get me wrong. While some unions rose to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the employers as abusers, employers were and are the great advantage takers. Unions can and do still defend you and me in many cases. But we have been brainwashed. Now I agree with you one-hundred percent that the “right to work” euphemism is prominently displayed in the Republicans’ Museum of Obfuscation. What a crock. These people have become masters of 1984 “Newspeak”. [link:www.newspeak.com] • The Patriot Act to erode your civil liberties? • Clear Skies Initiative to reduce control of mercury emissions from power plant stacks?? • Healthy Forests Initiative to clear the path of restrictions on clear cutting national forests?!? My point relative to your article, Prom, is that while the employer has achieved totalitarian level power over you and me, and often uses it with a vengeance, the Unions’ hands are not entirely clean. Whose fault is that? What I would like to see is the rise of a powerful American Consumer Union. The American consumer has the ultimate power if only it can be organized and channeled. That would bring these nasty employers to attention immediately if not sooner. And while such power would as always attract the exploiters, its national/global scope would help to prevent it from standing shoulder-to-shoulder with any employer or concatenation of employers. |

| This is not a "right to work" state! Tennessee is a "right to work" . . . This is the first "TRICKLE DOWN" state. I know that unions are no longer the answer, but at least at one point in our history, they almost helped to level the playing field. I used to work for an old guy who was the most anti-union peson I ever met! He would say things like "If you don't like things where you work . . . move it on down the road". At some point, we(Americans) will, or already have run out of road. In Arizona, The only direction left is EAST. California hasn't fallen off into the ocean yet, but who besides multi-millionaires could ever afford to live there. Gotta go get a sandwich .. . later
