Ya know, I must be the only one on this planet who has a progressive thinking, and and also belive that we should not give any quarter to anyone who has voluntarily signed into the military service, and who has refused to report for duty, or has left his post, or refused orders to go with the rest of the people he has trained with to active duty. In fact, I belive that they should be subject to the justice of the military court, and should serve thier jail terms. (or whatever the military deems thier punishment be)
I don't know really why this angers me so much. Maybe it is because I know that out of the thousands of men and women who have gone and served with honour, I am sure that not all of them wanted to go. Yet, they stayed honourable to thier word, thier promise, and the rest of the people they work side by side with. I am sure that ALL of the honourable soldiers know that they will give up much, and unfortuantly, may have to give up thier lives for what they (the soldier) belive is an honourable cause. I do not belive that the soldier's committment is political at all, and his politcal views should not keep him from his obligation to his nation, and especially to the people who depend on him in a dangerous situation.
I am sure that if a soldier is given an order to do something inhumane, or illegal (such as shoot civilians, torture someone...etc.) he can make the decision based on his own moral judgement, and THIS will be his own, (subject to the laws, and if he belives in God, that too) apart from his obligation to the people he has a committment to in his group of soldiers.
What am I not seeing here? I belive in why they do not report for duty, and I agree with them on the political merit. However, I see them abandoning the people in thier group, and in fact ALL of the men and women who have chosen to go, dispite thier political belief.
Someone help me understand.
