Senetor Larry Craig, who may or may not have been soliciting homosexual sex in a public restroom is experiencing what is called "compassionate conseratism".  He may or may have made a mistake and broke the law.  Honestly, we don't know and it is really not clear if he did.  His foot touched another man's foot in an ajacent partition of a public bathroom.  He reached his hand under the partition in a public bathroom.  The partition happened to be where an under cover police officer was looking for lawd acts and Mr. Craig was caught up in the net.

Listening to the taped "confession", I see no crime.  Perhaps the officer was trained to know the signs and symbols of those looking for illegal acts and Sen Craig happened to use the signs and symbols.  If there was no words, no exchanges of conversation describing the intent of a crime, and no criminal activity other than body language, where is the crime?  Even if Mr Craig is gay, and was looking for, and found a partner in that bathroom for a sexual encounter, where is the proof that they would have done it in the bathroom, or anywhere in public?  It is not illegal to "pick up" a stranger for sex in a bathroom unless it is for money, or unless it is in a public place...am I right? 

Perhaps Mr. Craig's only mistake in this matter was pleading guilty.  Perhaps he forsaw what is happening to him now and it was his intent to "make it go away".  Perhaps he has seen, and even participated in the slaughter of his wounded companions.  It is amazing how his own "friends" have tossed him aside, and made him an "example" of why they fight so hard for family values.   He ported the neocon kool aid disquised as family values, and morals in the form of bills and support for intangling the government in the bedrooms of ordinary citizens,  once he lost his use to them, they cut his political throat.  Even as I write this article, the continue to destroy this man, regardless of his family.    The only other group I know that do this...killing their own wounded, is fundementalist Christians.  Perhaps that power, and that belief in a man made god of their own understanding lacks compassion. 

I see how the "compassionate conservatives" have changed the issue from what should be percived as Mr. Craig's hypocracy to his sexual orientation.  I hope Mr. Craig now realizes that his only friends are the ones he so villified before.  I hope that he can come through this understanding that we, his former opponents, welcome him, now that he bears the scars of compassionate conservatism, along with liberals, homosexuals, victims of Hurricane Katrina, Muslims, Iraqis, women, the poor...and the list goes on and on.  Come Mr. Craig, welcome to the house of healing.  We all understand.  We, through our pain and suffering have learned the real meaning of compassion. 

Honestly...I really do feel bad for this man, and his family.  He has been through alot.
